By Mineral Volunteer Fire Department
June 26, 2024

After clearing a fallen tree in the Lake Anna community, the Mineral Volunteers on SQUAD-2 noticed an opportunity to help again! The MVFD has a mission to serve our community, and one way of service is by helping animals. Our passionate members accomplished this again today by safely helping this friendly turtle across the road.

Here are some tips to help these incredible animals!

Don't put yourself in danger:
You should only help a turtle if it's safe and doesd not cause a traffic hazard.

Don't relocate the turtle:
Turtles are familiar with their home ranges and can become disoriented if moved.

Don't change direction:
Turtles will have specific destinations in mind, and changing direction can prolong their journey. Try to move the turtle in the same direction it was going.

Be careful with different types of turtles:
Some turtles, like snapping turtles, can be aggressive and have mighty bites.
